Tinted Lip Balms: My 2019 List of Holy Grails.

Having a good tinted lip balm on hand is one of the biggest beauty tips I can personally give.

It’s one of the most versatile beauty products on the market. They pair beautifully with a smokey eye, bringing color to the lips without taking the attention away from the eyes. They are a great plan B if the lipstick you used to finish off your look feels like you tried too hard. They’re even great for your makeup-free days when you’re letting your skin breathe. Upon initial application to your lips, you can press a bit into the apples of your checks, under your cheek bones, and eye lids. The subtle wash of color adds a beautiful healthy glow to your face in under a minute.

Call me biased, but I collect tinted lip balms like Pokémon. I’m constantly on the hunt for a good tinted lip balm, even though I have enough now to last even my great great grandchildren lifetimes. In no particular order, here’s a the Holy Grail List of my favorite tinted lippies. Each product here has checked off as a 10/10 on quality, texture, distribution of color, longevity and price range. To sum it up, each of these lip balms blew my mind upon the first-ever application and I can’t imagine a life without them.

Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm in “Cherry Me” – $4

Applies beautifully, lasts between applications, and it won’t break the bank. Personally I’ll buy 5-10 of these at a time and scatter them all over parts of the house, studio, my purses and my car.

BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask in “Smashed”, $26

This is a big winner in my book. It’s one of those lippies where you’ll go to bed with it on, and wake up with it on. Which is why this is dubbed as a “Lip Mask”. “Tinted Lip Balm” is too ordinary a name for something extraordinary. This is super emolient, leaves a beautiful glossy ‘just bitten’ red finish that is subtle, and easily became an immediate holy grail in my book after I used it for the first time from a sample packet Sephora once sent me. This lip mask is made with real agave, and you’ll be able to taste the sugary sweetest! It’s also very emolient, and it stays on forever — it literally saved my life when I went to NYC for the holidays. If you’re ever been to New York in the middle of winter, I’m sure you’re familiar with the discomfort of waking up with the chapped, on the verge of cracking lips. So Bite’s Agave lip mask is a must.

Tata Harper Volumizing Lip + Cheek Tint, $38, Sephora

Imagine blush for your lips. A beautiful soft strawberry color will give you the flushed look, and the blend of 100% natural ingredients that are packed with antioxidants and vitamins will fight free radicals, target fine lines and wrinkles, and helps retain moisture. Tata Harper is one of the Founding Fathers of the #aestheticskin movement, and investing in any of their products will leave no room for error in giving your skin the proper treatment it deserves.

BUXOM Powerplump Lip Balm in “Flushed”, $18

For the price in exchange for the amount of product you get, this is such a great deal. It’s chubby stick requires only one swipe that will leave your lips gently tinted + stained. The menthol in this is a great minty feeling and acts as a temporary lip plumper. If you’re looking for lip plumping properties, Buxom is hands down one of the OG brands to use.

Glossier Balm Dot Com in “Cherry”, “Berry” and “Mango”, $12 each or 3 for $30

Super moisturizing, and the smell is to die for. For the price, this stuff lasts a long time. The Cherry flavor leaves a matte finish, so it works really great as a cheek tint. My personal ranking puts the Berry Balm at #1 because of the finish and color, then to Cherry and Mango.

Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker lipbalm in “Dr. Pepper”, $2.50

I mean, I’m probably stating the obvious, but I’m obgliated to pay my respect to this iconic, cult favorite lippies of the 90s that is still as popular today as it was 20 years ago. This Lip Smacker was the first tinted balm I ever used as a child that I still love now. The formula is a perfect nothing short of a holy matrimony of tint, moisture, and shine. As soon as the cap is popped off, the nostalgic scent will immediately take any 90s kid back down memory lane to everything loved that made their childhood so gosh-darn magical.

Burt’s Bees Pomagranate Lip Balm, $3.59

All natural, the color is subtle, and smells like true pomagranate. It’s also infused with pomegranate seed oil, which holds one of the highest antioxidant levels in comparison with other seed oils. Think about the nuturitional value of an actual pomegranate. Your lips need that same love too!

Dinoplatz Lip Balm

Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Lip Balm in “Spilled Wine”, $15

Don’t let the dark color fool you. This balm’s purpose is to enhance the lip color you’ve already been blessed with. This jelly-like, bouncy texture is light and it feels oh-so-good on the lips, because it’s made from all natural ingredients. It has powerful anti-aging ingredients like argan and evening primrose oil, and leaves a beautiful glossy sheen on the lips. It smells divine, and will be tempting for you to want to spread it on toast after applying it to your lips.

Lipstick Queen Frog Prince Lipstick, $12-25

Technically this “lipstick” feels like more of a gloss-balm combination. Don’t let the green fool you! This lily pad-green PH lipstick reacts with the warmth of your lips and turns into a beautiful rosey pink that pairs beautifully with your natural skin color. It’s loaded with Vitamin E and Shea Butter which will leave a beautiful shine on your lips as well as retain moisture all day long.

Nivea Blackberry Shine Lip Care, $3

Loaded with shea butter and castor oil to keep your lips moisturized all day long in the driest weather. Blackberry extract, blackberry juice, strawberry and raspberry juice are antioxidants that fight free radicals and target fine lines and wrinkles around the lips. The results? A beautiful tinted sheen that enhances your natural lip color that will last all day long.
